10 Questions for your Nashville Remodeling Contractor

…are you asking the right questions???

“When can you start?"     "When will it be finished?"     "How much will it cost?"

Timing and money are the most common questions a remodeling contractor hears during an interview with a homeowner.   While these are important questions, just as important are questions that pertain to credentials and verifying business policies and practices.

Here are ten questions we recommend you ask before signing a remodeling contract:

1·  How long have you been in business?

2·  Who will be assigned as project supervisor for the job?  (Remember, this will be the individual who controls access to your home)

3·  Who will be working on the project? (Are they employees or subcontractors?)

4·  Does your company carry workers compensation and liability insurance? (Always verify this information by calling the agency. A copy of an insurance certificate does not let you know if the policy is still current. Even if the certificate has an expiration date, you cannot tell if the insurance has been canceled by either party.

5·  What is your approach to a project such as this?  (This should include procedures and discussions on how things such as change orders, selections and Lock Integrity are handled)

6·  How many projects like mine have you completed in the past year?

7·  May I have a list of reference from those projects?

8·  Can you provide your EPA Lead Paint Certification?

9·  What percentage of your business is repeat or referral business?

10· Are you a member of a national trade association such as NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) or NAHB (National Association of Homebuilders)?
